Location: Cordillera Anahuac, S Central Mexico,
40 miles (65 km) SE of Mexico City
Lat / Long: 19.0° N, 98.6° W
Volcanic Type: Stratovolcano
Volcanic Status: Active and erupting as of 2003,
many eruptions since 1995
First Ascent: Diego de Ordaz and
soldiers of Cortez, 1519
First Ski Descent: Francisco Gonzalez Rul and
Eduardo de Maria y Campos, 1947
Skiable Vertical: over 6000 ft (1800 m) on occasion
Administration:   Parque Nacional Izta Popo
