Our plan worked out beautifully. The skiing on the groomed runs was smooth and fast, and I got in four quick runs by the time the envious telemarkers caught up with us. We'd had our cake and eaten it too, since the lift tickets had just been discounted to $20 and now the summit lay only a couple of hours above us. I knew I'd be thankful for taking the easy way up during the long drive back home to Seattle. We put skins on our skis and begin skiing up the Palmer Glacier towards the summit.
