This cool, crisp December day provided some of the most magnificent atmospheric phenomena I have ever witnessed. Around 1 pm, somewhere above 8000 ft (2400 m) on the Muir Snowfield, I looked back to behold this stunning view. Mount Adams has produced a raft of lenticular clouds in its wake, there appeared to be over a dozen separate lenticulars in three stacks. At the same time, the sun provided its own magic, with a bright sun dog along with a segment of the 22-degree solar halo visible far above Adams.
(For a full description of these fascinating solar halos, read "Light and Color in the Outdoors" by Marcel Minnaert, especially section 156 ff.)
