Farewell to Mount Shuksan
At 4 AM the next morning we set out for the summit. Warm temperatures overnight meant the snow was not frozen, and since the route ahead on the glacier was gentle we decided not to wear our crampons. Although there were a couple of slick areas, we made steady progress, despite the fact that we were roped up in groups of three (a prudent precaution in case of hidden crevasses, which can occur even on such a moderate glacier). The rising dawn revealed a strange lenticular-type cloud streaming across the summit pyramid, which at times would grow to completely envelop it.
