Finally by 2 PM, we were ready to ski down. The other party of three went first, but they traversed around to skier's right, following the safer but bumpier boot track of the ascent route. I wanted to ski straight down the fall line, a fine 45-degree slope which unfortunately led straignt to the bergschrund. However, by angling slightly to skier's left, it had appeared (during the ascent) to be possible to cross the bergschrund safely where it narrowed to less than a foot wide. So I took the plunge... only 5000 feet below lay Timberline Lodge.
