This trip was planned as a midweek getaway to avoid the crowds on the south side of Hood on weekends. We left Seattle on Wednesday evening, reached the parking lot at the Timberline ski area by 11 pm, and car-camped for the night. The next morning I arose at dawn to catch the first light falling on the cone of Mount Hood.
